Minggu Patriotik Celebration -26 August 2024

In conjunction with the National Day celebrations, Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (Private) proudly presents Minggu Patriotik—a week-long program designed to instill a sense of patriotism, unity, and love for Malaysia among students. This program features a variety of activities that encourage students to actively engage with the rich cultural heritage and history of our nation.

The Minggu Patriotik program at Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur kick off with an inspiring opening ceremony at Wesley Hall, setting the tone for a week dedicated to celebrating patriotism and unity. The ceremony begins with an opening gimmick, where students dramatically pose as the statues of the Tugu Negara, symbolizing the nation’s resilience and sacrifice. This moving tableau followed by a stirring choir performance by Year 8 students, who sing “Bersama Satu Suara,” a song that echoes the spirit of togetherness and national pride.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Creative Arts Club take the stage to perform a vibrant variety of Malaysian dances, showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the country. Their performance be a colourful celebration of Malaysia’s heritage, highlighting the different traditions that unite the nation. The opening ceremony conclude with a Merdeka Parade featuring all students, marching proudly to display their patriotism. This grand procession set a spirited tone for the rest of the week, leading into the array of engaging activities that inspire students to express their love for Malaysia.

Another significant activity is the Patriotic Collage, where all classes have work together to create a large collage spelling out “SEMARAK MERDEKA.” Each class contribute a piece to this collaborative artwork, symbolizing the unity and collective effort in celebrating Malaysia’s independence. Alongside this, the Rumahku, Wiraku (My Home, My Hero) activity see each class adopting a Malaysian state and decorating their classroom to reflect that state’s unique features, including a tribute to a patriotic figure from the region. This activity encourages students to explore the diversity and historical richness of Malaysia’s various regions.

The program also includes Malaysia Traditional Games, where students can participate in classic games such as Kite Flying, Baling Tin, Guli, Ceper, Teng Teng, and Gasing. These games offer a fun and interactive way for students to reconnect with Malaysia’s cultural roots, with winners receiving rewards. Additionally, the Online Merdeka Quiz, organized by the Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia, will test students’ knowledge of the country’s history and culture. Participants has competed for cash prizes and certificates, making this a challenging yet educational aspect of the week.

Finally, the week culminate in a Patriotic Attire Contest held in Wesley Hall, where students showcased their creativity and national pride by dressing in Merdeka Day-themed attire. This contest serves as the grand finale of Minggu Patriotik, celebrating the students’ engagement and marking the end of a memorable week of patriotic activities. In addition to the attire contest, the closing ceremony has featured a captivating student performance titled Malaysia’s History in a Glance, which takes the audience on a journey through the nation’s history from 1511 to 1963. This performance highlights key events and milestones that shaped Malaysia, giving students a deeper appreciation of their country’s heritage.

Adding to the excitement, the teachers presented a specially created video on patriotism. This video, filled with creative and heartfelt messages, has been a hit among the students, who thoroughly enjoy seeing their teachers express national pride in such an engaging way. Together, these events will not only reinforce the spirit of patriotism but also leave lasting memories for all participants as they celebrate Malaysia’s rich history and culture.

Minggu Patriotik is not just about celebrating the National Day but also about building a deeper understanding and appreciation of our country’s history, culture, and heroes. The program is designed to engage students in meaningful activities that are both educational and fun, fostering a strong sense of national pride among the future leaders of Malaysia.
