Leo Club: Community Service 1, Lovely Disabled Home
On Saturday, June 15, 2024, twelve members of the LEO Club, along with Faculty Advisors Mdm Devika A/P Nagarajan and Mr. Naresh Manickavasagam, participated in a Minor Community Service acitvity at Jalan SS2/3, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This activity, held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., was conducted in collaboration with the Lovely Disabled Home organisation and led by Organizing Chairperson LEO Shannon Ong Shiang Leng. The objective was to enhance members’ practices towards a more sustainable environment, aligning with one of the LEO Club’s global causes: the environment. Additionally, the initiative aimed to strengthen bonds among LEO members and raise awareness about the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and sustainable practices.
At 7:30 a.m.,everyone assembled on the school grounds and departed to the venue by school van. Upon arrival at 8:30 a.m., they were warmly welcomed by members of the Lovely Disabled Home organisation. The organisation provided a briefing on the program flow and described the tasks for the activity, highlighting their mission to provide employment opportunities and a good income for individuals with disabilities. Members were instructed on what items should and should not be recycled. Subsequently, they were divided into three groups of four, each accompanied by one or two organisation members for guidance. The groups then dispersed to different areas to commence the activity. A group photo was taken before the activities began.
By 9:00 a.m., the groups began the community service by visiting different homes to collect recyclable items. Members placed the collected recyclables onto carts or trolleys provided by the organisation. A van stationed nearby was used to accumulate all the recyclable items gathered by the groups. The collection process continued until all designated homes were visited. By 11:00 a.m., the members reconvened at the base area to sort the recyclable items, guided by the organisation on proper segregation techniques. The community service concluded with a brief speech by the Organizing Chairperson at 11:30 a.m. Afterwards, the members returned to school and then headed home.
This Minor Community Service activity was a wonderful experience for the LEO members as they were able to cultivate their skills towards the environment and enhance bond with one another. Many pictures were taken to commemorate this project with multiple group photos as well.
