Melbourne Study Tour 2024 : A Journey of Discovery and Learning

Thirty Wesleyans recently embarked on an eight-day, six-night study tour to Melbourne in mid-July. They explored academic opportunities at prestigious institutions such as La Trobe University, Monash College, Monash University, Deakin University, Swinburne University, RMIT University, and the University of Melbourne. Study tours like this are crucial for students, as they offer firsthand exposure to potential future academic environments, helping them make informed decisions about their educational pathways.

The tour provided insights into various courses, facilities, and teaching expertise through activities like campus hunts, AI+MR workshops, and art and design workshops. A dialogue with an expert at the University of Melbourne further inspired them. The students also explored state-of-the-art sports facilities at Deakin University and La Trobe University, where they were impressed by the advanced amenities and opportunities for athletic development. Additionally, they attended a real-world simulation workshop on trading, presented by Mr. Tim Pfitzner, Senior Lecturer in Finance at RMIT University. This engaging session provided valuable insights into financial markets, enhancing their understanding of economic concepts in a practical setting.

The students also immersed themselves in Melbourne’s rich culture and community by visiting the National Gallery of Victoria, the State Library, the Queen Victoria Market, and Eureka Tower, which stands at 297 meters, where they enjoyed a 360-degree view of the city.

The study tour also included a two-hour journey to Phillip Island, where students visited Panny’s Chocolate Factory and witnessed the little penguins returning from the sea to the shore. The experience of watching these adorable creatures emerge despite the rainy and windy winter weather was truly unforgettable. Additionally, they visited the iconic Brighton Beach, known for its colourful bathing boxes, which added another memorable cultural experience to their trip. This tour provided a blend of educational insights and cultural exploration, making it a truly enriching experience for the students.

The combination of educational, cultural, and recreational activities made the study tour a comprehensive and rewarding experience, broadening the students’ horizons and inspiring their future academic and career aspirations.
